The chapter’s activities are planned and managed by several key committees. Membership in each committee is open to any member with an interest in the area. Read about each of the committees listed below to learn more about their purpose, when they meet and how to contact the committee chair.
Community Service Committee
Purpose: The Community Service Committee identifies community needs to be addressed and develops projects to meet those needs. The projects benefit groups from youth to seniors.
Meeting Times & Location: The committee meets on the first Tuesday of every month except July and August at 10:30 AM at the South Coastal Library.

Purpose: The Legislative/Environmental Committee examines legislative and environmental issues affecting senior citizens residing in Delaware, particularly Sussex County. If circumstances demand, it will recommend actions or solutions to our chapter as a whole, to legislators or to AARP leadership at the state level.
Meeting Times & Location: The committee meets on the first Tuesday of every month except July and August at 1 PM at the South Coastal Library.

Purpose: The purpose of the Scholarship Committee is to develop criteria for scholarships to be awarded by the chapter and to select annual recipients. The group is also responsible for planning and conducting fundraising activities to support the program. Currently the committee offers two annual $1500 scholarships to graduating seniors from Indian River High School and $1000 in scholarships to adult students at Delaware Tech in Georgetown.
Meeting Times & Location: The committee meets at the call of the chair, approximately bi-monthly, at the Long and Foster Office on Route 1, Bethany Beach. Dates and times for the next two meetings are to be determined.

Purpose: The purpose of the Tour Committee is to plan enjoyable, educational, and entertaining trips for the members of our chapter. The Tour Committee wants to promote pure enjoyment. Trips are designed to offer a good value for participants while still providing resources that allow the committee and the Board of Directors to make contributions to organizations that are addressing critical community needs.
